About Us

The “Bulgarian Ultramarathons 2020” association is a non-governmental organization founded by passionate mountain and running enthusiasts, with a mission to develop outdoor sports, amateur sport, and mountaineering culture in Bulgaria. We have been organizing races since 2013, and we host two iconic ultramarathons — Persenk Ultra and Thracian Ultra. Guided by the motto “From friends to friends,” we create experiences with soul — for runners, volunteers, and spectators. We believe that sport unites, inspires, and builds community.

Nikolay Marangozov
If the route passes through nine mountains in the tenth – Nikolay probably invented it. He loves long distances, caramel cream, and maps with many turns. When he is not marking trails, he dreams up even more difficult routes.
Иван ДимитровАко нещо се движи гладко – вероятно Иван го е организирал. Ако нещо вдъхновява – той вече го казва по микрофона. Комбинира точен тайминг с мотивация на висока надморска височина. В планината е като у дома си, но винаги с мегафон под ръка… за всеки случай.

If something is running smoothly — Ivan probably organized it. If something inspires — he’s already announcing it. He combines precise timing with high-altitude motivation. He is at home in the mountains but always carries a megaphone… just in case.
Даниел ПаневГласът му се чува от старта до финала, а хуморът му е по-остър от баира на 30-ия километър. Даниел отговаря за регистрациите с търпение, достойно за олимпийски медал. Има три деца, не бяга много (освен след тях), но с радост финишира всяко състезание с бира в ръка.
Daniel Panev
His voice is heard from start to finish, and his humor is sharper than a bar at the 30th kilometer. Daniel handles registrations with patience worthy of an Olympic medal. He has three children, doesn’t run as much (except after them), but gladly finishes every race with a beer in hand.

The team behind DECATHLON Persenk Ultra and DECATHLON Thracian Ultra has extensive experience organizing competitions and sporting events in both mountain and urban settings.

  • We have organized 13 editions of Persenk Ultra — one of Bulgaria’s most popular ultramarathons.
  • We have staged 5 editions of Thracian Ultra — a race dedicated to the beauty and spirit of the Rhodope Mountains.
  • One training camp for runners — focusing on development and inspiration in a sporting environment

Partnerships

  • We co-organized the Pancharevo Marathon (first edition) together with the Begach Sports Club.
  • We are a founding member of the Bulgarian Association of Sports Organizers (BASO).
